The New Car Window Sticker

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Dennis J James

While most consumers never really bother to read the details of a window sticker, except to get a quick glance of the MSRP or to see the fuel economy ratings. What they don’t realize is that they are missing out on valuable information that could actually help them with their car buying decision. What consumers need to understand is that window sticker’s provide very important information that includes the vehicle’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price, and engine specifications. They also provide a comprehensive list of its standard and optional equipment. These statistics officially identify the car or truck for shoppers on a dealer’s showroom floor.

Therefore, if you really want to get more information on the vehicles window stickers, I have broken it down for you here. The window sticker is a wealthy resource of essential information about a new automobile. It lets you know exactly what’s included with any particular vehicle, as well as helping to ensure that you’re getting the exact options you’re paying for. New car dealers generally will sell a vehicle for somewhere between MSRP and its invoice price, which is usually higher than the dealer’s actual cost for the automobile.

There are exceptions: high-demand models could actually sell for more than MSRP, while less-popular vehicles could be coaxed away for less than the invoice price. Laws in most states require every new car to have a MSRP sticker on their vehicles and there are firm penalties for their absence to the dealers who don’t have these stickers on the window. That underscores the value of window stickers for the car shopper. Of particular value are several other pieces of vital information included with the manufacturer’s suggested retail price there are engine and transmission specifications; standard equipment, including warranty details; optional equipment; and fuel economy information.

The sticker will list and break down a cars standard features and its trim level. Most models come in two or more different trim levels, with higher-priced versions having more standard features such as upgraded engines and/or suspensions, larger wheels and tires, and an enhanced interior. Additionally the window sticker shows aggregated prices of all items in an options package will usually be discounted compared with buying each accessory individually. If this occurs, the applicable discount will be noted on the sticker. Even when an options group includes a factory discount, its transaction price is still negotiable at the dealer level.

The manufacturer’s warranty coverage is explained which tells you the number of years or months plus how many miles it’s covered for. Included will be a comprehensive coverage, which applies to parts and labor costs for covered repairs; power train coverage, which applies to such major mechanical components as the engine, transmission, and axles; corrosion coverage, which applies to body panels that have completely rusted through and may indicate that an extended warranty is available if a buyer wants additional coverage. (Extended coverage is usually offered in the finance office or asks your salesman for details). Additionally the window sticker supplies consumers with Fuel ratings and static’s that are calculated by the EPA. You can also find the vehicle identification number on the sticker, which you should always compare to the one on the drivers side windshield to make sure they match. Remember the MSRP is the suggested retail price for the car and every dealer in your region of the country has the same MSRP, it’s up to you to make the deal with your car dealer for what you pay.

A good word of advice, if the dealer has added additional charges to the MSRP, such as chrome wheels or window tint, they also need to have it listed next to the window sticker on a separate piece of paper called an addendum. If the addendum is not there then you do not need to pay for the add-on. Also, try to avoid the impulse of asking a dealer his best price while looking at the window sticker, because their answer will almost always be “the best price is on the window”.

6 Ways To Keep Your Car New And Running

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Barry Allen

A car is like a friend it can be by your side for ever if you treat it well. All it needs is good care and technology will take care of the rest. All you need to do it learn all you can about the car and its needs. If you make an effort you will save thousands of dollars in repair and maintenance costs. In general Japanese makes are reliable and need less care than American or European cars.

Here are a few tips that will help you take good care of your car:

1. Pay attention to what the maintenance manual recommends and create for yourself a reminder system that will tell you when a service needs to be done or a part replaced. While some things are based on mileage others depend on time used.

2. Create and maintain an emergency or repair fund. Try and put away small amounts towards unforeseen repair costs. In the long run saving to create a repair fund is easier that paying for a new car. Saving steadily will not startle you when an emergency arises.

3. Create a kind of cycle that will tell you to service the car, change oil, undertake anti-rust treatment, or to prepare the car for winter. If you treat the car right you will never have a breakdown or emergency. Keep an eye on what is known as the rust belt and nip any signs of rust in the bud and both the body as well as mechanical parts will stand you in good stead.

4. Be sure to read the car makers website as ell as forums and blogs devoted exclusively to the car model you own. These will help you keep abreast of new developments, news, views, and have access to free advice and help if and when any problem you can solve creeps up.

5. Keep an ear open to strange noises or tics. Develop a nose for new smells, unfamiliar running knocks and noises. As the owner you will develop the instinct that warns you when anything is amiss. Once in a while ask a friend or another car enthusiast to drive the car to judge how it handles. Learn to distinguish the normal from abnormal.

6. When any problem arises replace parts with quality parts and never resort to “quick fixes” these will just lead to deeper waters and not solve any problems. Interiors, electrical fixtures, chrome , and other accessories must be polished and cleaned just as you bath your kids or dogs. Always but quality parts and not parts that are less expensive. Stick to parts and replacements provided by the manufacturer.

Wash, wax, and polish will keep your car new and shining. Learn how to fight and deal with wear and tear especially that caused by weather changes. Always handle your car gently and treat the vehicle with respect. Follow road safety norms and rules and your car will probably out live you.

With good care your car will last well beyond 200000 miles and more. You will not just enjoy the convenience of a vehicle but save lots of money which will be spent on new cars or hired transport.

New Car Transmission Options

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Michael Kralj

Automatic Transmissions:

Many car owners love their Automatic Transmissions for comfort and ease. Put it in Drive, the torque converter does all the work and you Go. New technologies in Automatic Transmissions are now allowing six-speed automatic transmissions. You will find these six-speed automatic transmissions in mainstream cars like the Mazda6 and Ford Five Hundred. The MINI Cooper S, made by BMW, is thinking of going with the six-speed automatic transmission in its car. Seven-speed automatics are also showing up in high end luxury cars.

CVT Transmissions:

These are also automatic transmissions, yet perform slightly differently. You still put it in Drive and go. In these transmission, I have heard you do not feel the shift like normal automatic trannys, and that they cannot transfer as much horsepower to the ground, without some type of failures. The Nissan Murano and MINI Cooper have this option, and we will see how widespread this goes.

Manual Transmissions:

The Manual Transmission is the choice of gearheads who love their cars. They live and breathe having cars with this transmission, giving them complete control of the car at all times, and how it transmits the power. These transmissions have not changed much. You still have the clutch, brake and gas combo to make it move and stop. They do in many cars now have six-speed manual transmissions, and this is not an uncommon thing. Whereas you had 4-speed manual trannys long before. Want control? You want a manual transmission.

Auto-Shifting Manual Transmissions:

BMW and Audi are the leaders in this front. BMW has its SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) and Audi has the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox). I have driven neither, so I don’t have first hand experience with how they relate in control to a Manual Transmission. However, they do use a clutch like a manual transmission that is automatically shifted. The good news about that? Automatic transmissions loose roughly on average 20% of its power as it hits the wheels. With this transmission, you dont loose that power, because you do not have a torque converter, but you have an actual clutch. This is great news for people who like the option of automatic for traffic, but want the power to shift whenever they want to without loss of power. Look for more of these trannys soon, as even Volkswagen Golf’s are said to have them as an option.

Regain the New Car Scent With Proper Automotive Upholstery Care

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Benedict Yossarian

Time may have caused your car interior to stink like a combination of a thousand stench ranging from tobacco, socks, coffee, or wet dog. It is very difficult to regain the new car scent with the upholstery absorbing years of dust and other pollutants.

Car upholstery is made from different materials like leather, cloth, or vinyl. Cleaning of the interiors and the upholstery may be difficult and expensive since professional cleaners charge very high fees to remove the minutest of stains.

Cleaning the automotive upholstery takes patience and a little help from common household products. One may maintain and clean the upholstery from minor stains but big ones are better done by professionals who employ strong cleaning solutions without damaging the upholstery.

Cleaning Common Car Upholstery Problems

o Dust- Car upholstery can easily be cleaned from surface dust using a vacuum cleaner. Extension tools of the vacuum will help reach gaps and crevices to get rid of dust in between automotive upholstery. Cleaning solutions like leather or vinyl protector will help maintain them in great condition and make them more durable for long.

o Spills - No matter how one avoids spills on the car upholstery, bad things happen when we hit a bump on the road. The key to cleaning it is by soaking as much of the liquid out of the upholstery as soon as possible by using rags or paper towels. Press the towel against the upholstery to get rid of as much liquid as possible. Damp cloth can be used on spills on leather seat covers. Leather upholstery is best treated for misfortunes like this by using protectants on a regular basis to maintain the supple feel of the leather. It is best to avoid build up of dust or dirt on leather seats.

o Heavy Stains - Heavy stains are so unsightly. One quick remedy is to use baby wipes to absorb the fresh stain. If they don’t do the cleaning trick then try to brush a little soda water on the upholstery.

o Bad Odor - Automotive upholstery can easily absorb any odor from the circulating stale air inside or from air coming from the outside. A cup of coffee or a bag of fries can have tremendous effect on the smell of the car’s upholstery. A quick solution to this problem is opening the windows and spraying deodorizer to the interiors. Shampooing the carpet may also get rid of cigarette smell and improve the quality of air inside the car. If the smell stays it is recommended to consult professional upholstery cleaners who have the proper tools and cleaning materials.

o Leather Upholstery - Aside from applying protective liquid to the leather upholstery, regular cleaning and avoiding of extreme heat will lengthen the life span of the leather.

Cleaning automotive upholstery is the best solution to have that new car scent once more but like the clich

Buying a New Car Does Not Have to Be Difficult

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Andrew Regan

Buying a new car is a major purchase and probably one of the largest you will make asides from purchasing your own home. Before you begin the searching process, take a few minutes to think about exactly what you will need.

If you have a family - or are expecting a new addition to the family - then a two-seater sports model may not tick all the boxes. Think about what you use your car for; if you play golf you need to check the boot capacity; if you drive long distances frequently then fuel consumption becomes important.

Other deciding factors may include the age of the car, whether you need two or four doors, carbon emissions and the make or model. Taking the time to consider such practical points helps you know exactly what it is you’re looking for, which should make the search for your new vehicle much more straightforward.

If you’ve managed to narrow your search down a little and at least know if you want a saloon or 4×4, you could start to read reviews on various cars and get to know which particular make or model best fits your needs. The Internet has a wealth of information and being as informed as possible before you arrive at the car garage will help you find the car you really want.

There are advantages and disadvantages to buying either a brand new or a second hand car. New cars benefit from all the latest technology and safety features. What’s more, most new cars come with a warranty, so there should be minimal maintenance bills during this duration.

However, one of the main disadvantages to purchasing a new car is the depreciation that takes effect the minute you drive out of the showroom. In comparison, second hand cars are less expensive to buy and often can have much lower depreciation than new models.

Furthermore, if you buy a second hand car over three years old then a MOT is required and any related costs will be incurred. Maintenance costs are also likely to be higher on a second hand car, so factor this into any budgeting you may be doing. The running costs of your car are equally important considerations. Road tax is an annual cost that can vary depending on your cars CO2 emissions and fuel type.

Insurance is another essential, as it is a legal requirement to have a policy in place when driving a car. Again, the specification of your car can affect the cost of insurance, so do your homework beforehand. Whether you decide to investigate online car insurance or simply through a high street insurance broker, it is important to ensure that you are covered.

Of course, there is much to take into consideration when buying a new car, but it pays to carefully consider all the necessary factors to ensure you purchase the most suitable vehicle for your needs.

Buying A New Car Without Getting Ripped Off!

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Glenn Lamb

I have over 20 years experience at a new car dealership. I have sold cars, been in fleet sales, a fleet manager, leasing manager, finance manager, inventory manager, and produced vehicle advertising. In general I would say that a new car dealer is very motivated to get the maximum possible revenue from each customer. (This is also true for most businesses) Dealership management typically adheres to all rules and regulations and will not allow deceptive selling practices. The general problem for the consumer is that they are usually less skilled at the buy/sell process than the dealership staff. The staff does this all day, every day; the customer may buy once every few years. I can’t tell you all that I know on one page. I will try to give you a few tips to help level the playing field.

The first tip is to go slow in the shopping process. The dealer will usually press for a commitment to buy TODAY! Don’t be rushed to buy. There is almost never a great deal today that will be gone tomorrow. First choose the type of vehicle you want, and decide which options you need. Then you can contact multiple dealers for a price quote. It may be better to do this online or by phone. At this time you should find out what factory specials are available. Consider the advantages of a low rate vs. a larger rebate if that is the case. Are you eligible for any special pricing plans such as X or Z plan because of being a close relative of a factory employee or because of the company you work for? After you narrow your choice of dealers, don’t be afraid to play them against each other. Dealers **** to lose a deal to a competitor and will likely go lower to get the deal.

The second tip is to only buy the car and nothing else from the dealer! Make it very clear that you don’t want, and won’t pay for, paint sealer, fabric protector, service coupon books, paint stripes, alarm system, window tint, life insurance, tire warranty, etc., etc., etc. Any of these things can be gotten later, if you have to have them, at a lower price. If you want an extended warranty, call a few dealers after the purchase and get it at a discounted price. It is common for the finance department to “load the boat” with extras. READ the paper work they present, especially anything with price figures. Tell them to take off any extras and walk if they won’t. (They won’t let you walk too far!)

If you have a trade in, negotiate that separately from the cost of the vehicle. If possible get a bid from a place like CarMax for an indication of your trade-in wholesale value.

Shop for your own financing and only use the dealer arranged financing if they meet or beat what you can get elsewhere.

A typical profit for the dealer can be about $3,000 including the vehicle and financing. On some customers the dealer might make $10,000 or more in profit. If you use these tips you may be able to reduce the dealers profit to a small amount.

2008 New Car Release Strategy

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Dan Mercurio

Why do automobile manufactures release new models at all times of the year?

People shopping for cars today, face the same decisions they did in years past, 2-door or 4-door, car, truck, van, or SUV. The idea of buying versus leasing is now on the table once again. The idea of buying a car in the middle of 2007 and having to decide between a 2007 and a 2008 muddies the water. Some of these vehicles will be all-new models, others radically different, while still others with only slight alterations.

Manufacturers are using the release of the new 2008 products as more of a strategy than in years previous years. They realize they they have the power to create targeted traffic at given points of the selling season with these new releases. They no longer have to share the same pie with every other automaker. The traditional introduction of the models in early October created to much competition between the manufacturers. All the automakers were introducing their new lineup at the same time and sharing the spotlight with all the other automakers. A model can be deemed a 2008 so long as it goes on sale after January 1st of the current year.

Consumers are split relatively evenly between the bargain of the left over model and the idea of having the latest and greatest. There is certainly a price to be paid for stepping up into a new 2008 model. Many consumers opt to pay more for the 2008 because the 2007 does not seem quite so new anymore. While the bargain hunters can save even more during the buzz of the newly released models.

This is a win-win for the dealerships. The manufacturers need to assist the dealers in moving out the 2007 products (heavier incentives) and the profits for the dealers can be significantly higher on the fresh 2008 products.

More and more new models for 2008 are being produced monthly. Check out where to find your favorite at DealerLinkUSA.

Maintaining New Car’s Engine Compartment

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Zeke Gervis

Your new car’s engine compartment is as important as the smooth appearance of your exterior. Make sure to regularly maintain the engine compartment to avoid costly repairs and replacements, and be assured of a longer engine life and an excellent performing car.

Modern cars have cooling system components that are being forced to do more than the older ones. This is because of the trend to downsize car parts in order to minimize space and weight. To maintain your cooling system’s peak of efficiency, the most appropriate thing to do is to alter the coolant once every two years. Remember that anti-freeze does not wear out. Also, by altering the coolant, you are ensured that the corrosion inhibitors are fresh and doing the job they are supposed to. By maintaining your car’s cooling system, you are assured of less scale and corrosion that builds up inside the radiator when coolant is left in too long. Of course, you can also definitely avoid the high cost of radiator repair or replacement.

The brake fluid is the most important engine component. It is not a petroleum-based product; as a matter of fact, it is made up of cashew shells. They absorb moisture from the air. As a result, it minimizes braking performance. A substance also builds up over a period of time. In effect, this blocks the valves inside ABS units. The end result is no less than costly repairs or replacement. This blocking substance also causes calipers and wheel cylinders to leak. Thus, it results in repairs or replacement. So better flush the brake fluid and have it refilled every two years or 60,000 miles. Power steering fluid also needs to be flushed and refilled once every two years or 60,000 miles.

Another fluid, the transmission fluid, requires regular replacement so that it is kept in a tip top shape. Lack of maintenance is the main cause of transmission failures. To prevent costly repair and replacement, make you work done regularly.

Air and fuel filters prevent dirt from your engine. But their function does not mean they do not require cleaning anymore. Junky air and fuel filters result to several driving problems such as hesitation and rough idle stem. To avoid problems like those, replace the filter every 15,000 miles. The carbon canister filter, which is a very vital component of the emission control system and filters the in coming air, should be replaced. The emission controls are integral parts of modern engine management system. Keep in mind that a blocked canister filter will also result to drivability problems.

A PVC filter is only common to some cars. It is also known as a breather element. The air for the PCV system is filtered by this engine part. The dirt from the engine crankcase is also kept out by this PVC filter. It needs to be replaced at 15,000 mile intervals.

While checking your PCV filter, also check the PCV valve and replace it regularly. When a new PCV filter is installed, a new PCV valve must also be installed.

Also include the oxygen sensor in maintenance. It measures the proportion of oxygen (O2) in the gas or liquid being analyzed. Usually made with zirconium ceramic bulb coated on both sides with a thin layer of platinum, this sensing element comes in both heated and unheated forms. Its main task is to measure the performance of internal combustion engines in automobiles and other modes of transportation. If you see any damage in your Dodge car’s Dodge oxygen sensor, consult the owner’s manual to prevent further vehicle damage.

The spark plugs together with the other ignition parts are engine components have become much more reliable since the age of high technology began. Most modern engines use a DIS or Direct Ignition System. This system mounts one ignition coil on each spark plug. This minimizes the need of a distributor. Also, the PCM controls the firing of each coil.

Nonetheless, distributors still exist in some engines. On engines that still use a distributor, replace the distributor cap, distributor rotor and ignition wires every 30,000 miles.

On a regular basis, replace the spark plugs. In the auto shops are platinum plugs, split fire plugs, multi-electrode plugs, red ones, green ones and blue ones. But you must only opt for the recommended one of your manufacturer. Usually, spark plug information is located on the engine decal under the hood.

The most crucial part of the engine is the timing belt. It is so crucial that it needs to be replaced before it breaks. If your vehicle has an engine whose valves and pistons are located in the same place in the combustion chamber at different times, it implies engine damage. If your car uses a non-interference engine, you might experience a car breakdown. So to avoid this, replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles.

Each engine part is essential for your engine, in particular, and your car, in general. Never take even one part for granted. This is to avoid untoward car breakdown. Moreover, the engine is the one that makes you car work. Your new car’s engine compartment is must at all times work properly because that is the heart of your vehicle. Well maintained engine parts will give you your desired car performance.

New Car Technology Advancements

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Dennis J James

Car technology is advancing at amazing speed so it’s no surprise that at least a couple cool things turn up each model year. Here are some of the latest innovations that will be coming out sometime in the near future that new car buyers can look forward to seeing.

Economy Mode

While we consider that most of us drivers are set in their ways and odds are we will never make the necessary changes to conserve on fuel. One example of such would be, we know that by simply not using our AC increases our fuel economy when we drive, but rather than just rolling down our window when we could to save fuel we opt to use the air conditioner to keep us cool. We are simply set in our ways when it comes to running our AC even when we could be just as comfortable at this time with a window down. With the new idea and innovation of the Economy Mode the car it will be able to determine what systems in your car are non-essential at the time and turn them off to save on fuel for the driver; examples could be the AC, Cruise Controls and others. The car would begin making these adjustments for the driver automatically. It’s not just an idea in fact; some Hybrids feature an economy mode that limits A/C use on several models right now.

Black Box Technology

Planes have them and cars will too, and why not the Black box on planes have be literally invaluable for many years with its ability to get detail records of trips and logs of what happens to a plane in flight or when accidents occur. It’s still being debated like most things that come to personal privacy and many people will no doubt object to the idea of the black box being implemented into their personal vehicles. The fact is that both Ford and General Motors already are using black Box technology in around two-thirds of the models built, but they are referred to as “recorders”. Drivers can expect the advancement of these “recorders” to be able to tell police officers and insurance companies about car accidents, how fast you were driving, where you had driven that day and much more.

Cars That Park for You

Yes, a car that actually will do the parking is already in production today. There is already one type of system where the driver keeps his foot on the brake while the car amazingly enough parallel parks it’s self. Its future looks bright, as this type of application could be very useful in the future not just in parking but also use in other tight places like garages.

Let the Car do the Driving

It’s no longer just a dream or something we have seen in the movies, with the advancement of GPS and robotic technology setting your car on Auto Pilot where the navigation system guides the car to its destination while the driver sits back and relaxes will become a reality sooner than many people could imagine. Experimentation and planning is underway with the use of magnets and GPS to make this dream become a reality.

Crash Detection

Is already a reality with the Acura RL and it’s called the Collision Mitigation System. Hopefully, one day all cars will include this type of safety feature. Where the cars decides on its own that a wreck is unavoidable and will warn the driver to brace for impacts as it automatically takes action for the driver by deploying the airbags hitting the brakes and tightens up seatbelts etc. all own its own.

The near future is indeed an exciting time.

New Car Buying Tip: Don’t Trade In A Car You Owe Money On

Posted by admin  Published in Automotive
Chris Kavila

Here is a new car buying tip that can save you a lot of anxiety and grief, if not money.

It is quite common for people buying a new car to trade in their old car, and this tip will help you avoid the pitfall of such an action. Many times the happy customer drives away into the sunset and forgets all about this tiny detail only to get a very rude awakening a few weeks later. They suddenly find out that their new car dealer did not pay off their car loan in a couple of days as promised.

Legally when the bank calls, the loan is still in your name and you are therefore still liable and responsible.

The new car buying tip here that you really need to remember and enforce at all times, no matter how much you trust the car dealer, is to make sure that the car dealer puts everything in writing. It is really that simple. They need to put their promised intentions in writing that they will pay off your car loan in 10 days as promised verbally.

If they can not put it in writing then you should not under any circumstances whatsoever make the deal.

This is one tip for new car buying that has absolutely no exceptions.
